Enable SSL/TLS
« on: December 27, 2012, 11:16:03 am »
Ever wondered how to provide your end-users with end-to-end (does that count towards my pun quota for the day?) encryption without paying a cent?

https://www.startssl.com - All you need is an email address (i.e. webmaster@hacktalk.net) and 20 minutes of playing around with Apache/nginx/lighttpd to install it.

https://calomel.org/ - Great website for learning the ins-and-outs of configuration

Disclaimer: If HTTPS was part of HackTalk before the server move and it just hasn't been re-enabled, feel free to discard this.

We had https (no one really used it lol) . I'll look into calomel though because WoT bitched about startssl and thus my users bitched. Expect SSL to be implemented after the new year

WoT bitched about StartSSL? Gay. Did you get the certificate order right? https://sslcheck.globalsign.com/en_US

If you need help, I can mail you a slightly redacted copy of my nginx config for a project at work (with unused certs & irrelevant private keys) that uses StartSSL. For comparison and whatnot.
